Wastewater Treatment Plant
Sewage or Wastewater Treatment plants from PWTSA ensures that contaminants from municipal wastewater, containing mainly household sewage and industrial wastewater are removed. This helps enhance the sanitation in towns and cities. With the use of physical, chemical and biological processes contaminants are removed. As a result, the harmful environmental impact caused by improper discharge is minimised. Furthermore purified wastewater that is safe is produced and released into the environment.
Residue collected in sewage treatment plants is called Sludge. Sewage sludge, which is mostly dewatered solid material, a product of wastewater treatment. Sludge from industrial waste systems may contain a whole range of matter that can be extracted and reused. Once treated, sewage sludge is then dried and added to a landfill applied to agricultural land as fertiliser.
A major aim for PWTSA wastewater treatment is to remove as much of the small solid particles that remain in suspension in water. This is done before the effluent is discharged back to the environment. Reason being that solid material decays, it uses up oxygen. This oxygen is needed by water plants as well as animals living in the water.
